Tour Itinerary
Remote Reserve & Lover’s Leap
Before your legs get a workout, we’ll travel along the stunning coastal road from Dunedin to the scenic Sandymount Recreation reserve located in the remote hills of the Otago Peninsula.
The journey by foot begins as you cross farmland dominated by windswept trees toward a lookout point overlooking ‘Lovers Leap.’ This scenic phenomenon inaugurates a view of a natural rock bridge crossing, washed out by the sea thousands of years ago. Lover's Leap connects the rugged coastal cliffs with a spectacular hanging valley.
Beach Hut Break
The walking tour continues out through a remnant patch of native bush, before descending the largest sand dune in the Otago region to our privately owned beach hut.
Tea and Cadbury’s chocolate offer refreshment in our private hut situated on a picturesque beach. Stunning views and rewarding encounters with rare wildlife like New Zealand fur seals and sea lions, and sometimes the majestic Yellow-Eyed Penguin can be experienced.
Walk along a beautiful beach and learn about New Zealand conservation techniques employed to protect these rare native species. Huge basalt rock formations shaped by fierce waves and a dynamic dune environment make the final part of your guided Dunedin walk spectacular.
High Road Return
Returning to your minibus, relax and enjoy the magnificent views from the ‘high road’ as we make our way back towards the city, and then skirt the Harbourside road back to Port Chalmers.
